Meet the Horses
Hank
Hank the Tank is our 16-year-old Tennessee Walker/ Arabian cross. He is a gaited horse with an inextinguishable fire in his belly and a need for speed. However, he has an extremely gentle spirit. We use Hank for a majority of our beginner lessons for people of all ages. He knows exactly who is on him whether it is his owner, Cary, or a 2-year-old on a horse for the first time. He is smart as a whip and we are so grateful to have him around!
Legend
Celine's Legend is one of the babies of the herd. He is also a Tennessee Walker/ Arabian cross, but presents more dominantly as an Arabian. He gets spooked a lot, but he absolutely loves people. He has been in multiple 50 mile endurance races and does best with a rider he really trusts. He was born just days after his father, Celine, passed away. He was born with a heart on his nose, a moon on his forehead, and an incredible spirit.
Josie
Josie is one of two mares in the group. She has a reputation for being the laziest, most laid back ride in the barn. Our instructors frequently use her to teach posting and other intermediate skills. She, like all mares, has a bit of an attitude...but anyone who gives her good scratches is her new best friend. Hank and her seem to rule over the little ones in the herd, with Josie being 10 years old now. She has also done 50 mile races and holds the highest place for Butler Stables, with a second place in the 50!
Rose
The other baby of the group is Rose. She is the most Tennessee Walker of them all! But what she lacks in brains she makes up for in genuine kindness and spunk. She is the only one of our horses that does a true Tennessee Walk, which is great for endurance racing! She has been in a few 30 mile races now and is a delight to be around.
About Us
Butler Stables was started nearly 60 years ago when Cary's dad bought a barn and a few horses. At his current barn in Boone, NC, Cary has raised, trained, and nurtured multiple foals into amazing horses. The father to Hank, Legend, Josie, and Rose was a horse called Celine. Cary always said Celine was the only horse he ever had that was NOT for sale! They had a bond like no other and Cary is so happy to have horses will Celine genes all over North Carolina.
